Papers consist of correspondence and other items. Family correspondence of Nellie Thomas McColl (later Nellie Pringle) and her family and friends concerns family and social matters, Nellie's health problems, her brother's concerns about an "upstate" girl (Nellie) marrying a Charlestonian (Ernest H. Pringle, Jr.), her engagement to Ernest H. Pringle, deaths and illnesses in the family, charitable contributions, business and financial matters, a financial judgment against Nellie McColl Pringle, state politics, and other matters. Included are several letters written to Duncan D. McColl, father of Nellie, attesting to Ernest H. Pringle's good character and suitability as a husband for his daughter; congratulatory letters and telegraph messages regarding the marriage of Nellie McColl and Ernest H. Pringle; congratulatory letters on Ernest H. Pringle's appointment as vice-president of the Bank of Charleston; letters between Ernest H. Pringle and Dr. St. Julien Childs (New York, N.Y.) concerning financial and real estate transactions; a letter from Nellie McColl Pringle regarding the preservation of historic buildings in Charleston (S.C.); and picture postcards and telegrams. Correspondents include Duncan Donald McColl Sr., Duncan Donald McColl Jr., D. Kenneth McColl, Leroy Springs, Prof. Thomas Della Torre, Ernest Henry Pringle, Sr., Col. Henry A. DuPont (a cousin of the Pringle family), Amelia Tournier, Sophie Chandler, C.A. Pringle, and members of the Furman and Carroll families. Letters are from Bennettsville (S.C.), Charleston (S.C.), New York (N.Y.), and elsewhere. Legal and financial documents include wills; a deed; a satisfaction of judgment; a list of bonds; and receipts and bills for clothing, medical services, and other expenses. Genealogical material consists of clippings of obituaries and notes on Pringle family genealogy. Other items include calling cards; wedding invitations (1906); clippings; report cards (1900) of Nellie McColl; printed transcripts (1934) of a radio address by Ernest H. Pringle concerning banking; printed material concerning the Bank of Charleston; and a few photographs of Pringle family friends or relatives.
